RISK MANAGEMENT
Risk management hierarchy of control
Risk management hierarchy of control shows the steps PCBU must take to eliminate or control hazards. It ranks control strategies from the most effective to the least effective.
1. Substitute the hazards: replace the unsafe work practice with a safe practice.
2. Isolate the hazard: isolate the hazard by using guards or distance. Or use trolleys to move heavy objects, rather than doing it manually.
3. Engineering controls: change equipment or materials: redesign equipment or processes to make work practice safer.
4. Administrative controls: change work methods, do things differently: if points one or two above cannot be done. Thinking of ways the work is done can help to reduce risks. For example, job rotation, Training information, adopting safe work practice and routine maintenance procedures.
5. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as a last resort this method of control is the least effective. If required suitable PPE should be provide to the employee. Along with training in its use PPE should be properly maintained to ensure it is effective. Examples of PPE include gloves, goggles, respirators, and safety footwear.

Did an inspection of the class and here are some of the hazards found in the room.
Identify:
Walk ways are not clear of obstruction
Assess:
There is a wire near the front of the room that is hanging from the roof and is in the middle of the walk way. People can easily walk into it if they are not watching where they are going.
Control:
Find a way to cover it up and run it along the roof and down the wall instead of just letting

Identify:
There are exposed lead/wires
Assess:
Exposed wires under desk can easily be damaged by people’s feet.
If someone spills some liquid then the liquid can easily get on the wires.
Control:
Put covers on exposed wires

Identify:
Filing cabinets are not in order
Assess:
If students or teachers are trying to find files it becomes harder to find.
Control:
Students and teachers should make sure that everything is in alphabetical order
When a student gets a folder out they put it back in the right spot

Identify:
Bins are not located in a suitable point
Assess:
People have to waste time trying to find the bin
Control:
Try and find a place that people can easily see the bin
