Identify hazards that may arise in an office
Hazards that can arise in an office that can cause potential harm to workers and ill health, damage to property and the environment are or a combination. Workers are responsible to identify hazard that may arise in the workplace and report it to the supervisor. If not reposted immediately can cause harm to other people in the workplace. There are categories for each hazard. Those categories are Logistical hazards, Physical hazards, Chemical hazards, Biological hazards, Psychological hazards and Mechanical/Electrical hazards.
Physical- noise, slips, trips and falls. incorrect use of office furniture such as chairs is a common injury to an office worker. Also caring have loads can cause back problems.
Chemical- There are many sources in an office environment such poisons, dust, paint, toners, cleaning agents, deodorant sprays and perfumes and cooking odours.
Biological- viruses and parasites. Contaminants and body fluids from workers with flu's and virus's, cuts and insects such as mosiquitos.
Mechanical/electrical- frayed cords, improper wiring, overloading powerpoints and boards.
Psychological- fatigue to workers, violence and bullying by workers and PCBU and stress and depression .
Logistical- the height at which storage spaces and shelves are located. Leaving filing cabinets open and stacking shelves incorrectly can cause injuries. They can cause people to fall, trip and break bones. Also living boxes in walk ways and blocking emergency exits.
