Outline the role of the WHS Committee and WHS duty holders
A WHS committee is made up of workers that have been elected and their duty is to identify and resolve WHS issues and develop and monitor safety systems and procedures. The WHS committee meetings are a place to provide a forum for management and workers to identify and resolve health and safety problems. Also look at developing new policies or improving old ones and training program. The meetings are recorded, stored and made available to all workers. WHS Committee monitor the workplace by making sure that workers views are heard on WHS matters. WHS duty holders are there to recognize the changing nature of the workplace and it’s relationships with its works and to ensure that health and safety is extended to all types of workers. The various duty holders in the workplace are PCBUs, Health and safety officers, managers and supervisors, team leaders, union officers and WHS inspectors. The role of the duty holders is to ensure that the business follow the required rules of WHS.
The role of the worker is to take reasonable care for their own health and safety, take reasonable care for their acts or omissions and to not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons. Comply with any instruction given by PCBUs and other workers and cooperate with any reasonable policy or decision.
